Hi guys!! This is the first time I’ve written a guide for much of anything in several years so bear with me and if you find I’ve missed anything or think I have an error please feel free to correct me by replying to this thread.
Finding Shipwrecks can be fun but also at times frustrating... the more you do the better you get at following the clues that the aids give you and figuring out where your shipwreck is.
COLLECT SHIPWRECK MAP PIECES:
First your going to need maps these can be obtained through the collection skill, the fishing skill, pets can find them and you can also pick them up from doing land battle with NPCs.
Once you have a shipwreck map piece, "use" it. It will be analyzed and then you can check on it from the shipwreck command in the Journal Menu. You will need more than one map. This screen will tell you how many shipwreck map pieces you will need to complete your current map.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
Salvage and Haul skills also come in very handy. If you don’t have them or slots for them you can purchase salvage and haul ropes. (you will need many of these)
The Unlock skill comes in when you board your shipwrecks as some of the chests are locked.
Archeology and Recognition are also sometimes needed for reading some of the maps.
Repair Skill, I'm honestly not sure how I would raise a wreck with out it.. During the raising of the wreck your ship will become damaged so make sure you take lots of lumber with you to repair your ship.
Aide you should also have an aid with lookout. The aid will let you know when you are in the correct area or close to the correct area by giving you certain hints.
FINDING YOUR SHIPWRECK:
If at all possible it helps to take some fleet members with you especially if you are just learning how to raise It also helps to have a ship with a good amount of Dura and sailors as both of this will be lost during raising your wreck.
Look at your completed map and find the location where your shipwreck is. I like to use the map that I have posted in another section of our forum to compare the shape of land bodies. Then Head to where you think your wreck is.
Watch for hits from your aid to help you determine where exactly your wreck is.
You will get messages like “The shipwreck you are looking for is in waters not far from here” when you are getting close to your destination.
When receive the message "The ship you are targeting appears to have sank in these waters." You can start using your salvage skill or salvage ropes. (If you have more than one fleet member with you it will tell you who is closer to the location of the shipwreck)
When you are close to the wreck the aid will notify you that “there is floating debris or cargo and you must be close to the shipwreck” watch for this statement to be made several times in a row and this is where you will want to use your salvage skill or ropes to find the shipwreck. It may take quiet a few tries to find the wreck so you will want to have lots of salvage ropes on hand if you are using these.
Also if you have an Aid with the lookout skill you can move your mouse over the shipwreck map and sometimes a faint red X will appear this will give you a general idea of where you should look. Please note though that the X will drift around the map.
RAISING YOUR SHIPWRECK:
When you find the wreck you will get a message similar to “we’ve found the wreck” and it will begin raising. The Aide will tell you the % of the wreck raised. The more Crew and fleet mates you have the quicker your wreck will raise. Make sure you watch your ships durability and use repair or carpentry tools to bring it back up if your ship looses all of its crew or durability then the wreck will sink back down to the bottom of the ocean.
When you have finally raised your wreck use the haul skill or your haul ropes and begin to pull your wreck back to the nearest port. Keep an eye on what your aid has to say, at times you will need to stop and drop your anchor b/c “the haul line will be about to snap”. This is just my theory but it seems I have less trouble with the haul line if I do not speed my ship up using sail handling. If something does happen and you loose your ship you should be able to return to the area you last had it and find it rather quickly.
EXPLORE YOUR SHIPWRECK:
Once at port you can explore the shipwreck. Any fleet members that wish to join you must be in the docks screen with you when you click on the explore shipwreck button in the Port menu box. I would strongly suggest you putting on your battle gear as there is usually NPCs aboard the ship. Also make sure you have plenty of cargo space and room for any items your toon may find in the chests. If something happens and you leave the shipwreck or you get killed in battle and there is still treasure to be found on the wreck you will be permitted to explore the wreck again.
Once you have completed your exploration you can now use another shipwreck map piece and start the process again.
I hope this has been helpful thanks for reading! ;D
